Marriage Records
Within the Sandys Row collection at the Bishopsgate Institute Archives there are Marriage Registers dating from 1894 – 1986. Volunteers have been working closely with the Bishopsgate Institute to scan and transcribe these historic documents, which are available to view and download from this website. These registers list the names, ages and places of residence of people who were married at Sandys Row Synagogue during this time period, along with their profession at the time of marriage and the name, residence and profession of their fathers. It is interesting to note in the early documents how many members of the Sandys Row community had Dutch names and were working as cigar manufacturers and diamond polishers, trades they bought over with them from Holland. Use the search function on this website to find family members. The marriage records are free to download although we would welcome a donation to the synagogue for this service.
