To date nearly 150 historic records have been recovered from Sandys Row Synagogue. Many items were found in the basement, which had been used as a storage space by the community for over a century. During a lengthy process and with the support of members of the board, a team of dedicated volunteers and the expert help of archivists from the Bishopsgate Institute Archives we have carefully identified then transferred archival material from Sandys Row to the nearby archives, where they have been catalogued and moved into a controlled temperature storeroom. The next stage of this project has been to digitise this collection, making this material available to scholars and interested individuals internationally. We have now completed scanning all of the hand written minute books, which date from  1872 to 1963. Other handwritten documents in the collection include: Seat Register 1896, Ledger for the Ladies Society for Providing Holy Vestments, The Minute Book for the Stepney Street Traders Association (who were based at Sandys Row Synagogue) and Rules of a Committee 1878. Other material in the collection will be available to view and download from this website as and when they are completed. This digital database is a work in progress, and new entries are being added regularly.
